Waterholes and Waterfalls in the Scenic Rim |
The mountains and valleys of the Scenic Rim hide countless waterfalls, creeks and rock pools. Many of its regions are elevated and can be 4 to 5 degrees cooler and less humid than nearby coastal areas.Visit the Lamington Plateau and the headwaters of the Albert, Nerang and Coomera Rivers and Christmas and Widgee Creeks which all contain numerous waterfalls and rock pools amid the towering rainforests. Watch for the shy platypus in the creeks and waterholes.
Experience the wilderness of Mt Barney . Both the Upper and Lower Portal tracks lead you to spectacular rock pools and gorges with deep swimming holes and rock slides, but be warned your swim will be ‘ bracing’ but much appreciated after the walk in. Or try the Cronan Creek track which meanders back and forth over the creek until it reaches a 15 m waterfall hidden in the rainforest. For those who enjoy their water sports both Maroon and Moogerah dams offer the opportunity to water ski, sail or canoe. The dams are both popular fishing spots especially for Bass. Many of the accommodation venues have swimming pools or are situated on creeks with their own private waterholes. So head for the Scenic Rim to cool off this summer.
